The "Mobile Studio“

Experimental studio for electroacoustic music and mobile recording studio

Although this studio is primarily based on the idea of realizing my own musical interests, I regularly work for others. This work is in the areas of software development (audio, video, lighting), typical recording studio work (live recording, mixing, editing, mastering, digitizing) and occasional teaching assignments.

Recording "properly" is a complete job - and one that also requires a hefty financial commitment and some technical knowledge beforehand. Simultaneous musical activity isn't recommendable for everyone, but if you want to do it anyway, it might turn into a balancing act quickly.

Even if a recording is well mixed, the decisive difference comes with the "master" (actually one speaks of the "pre-master"). This requires volume and dynamic adjustment and equalizing - and the highest quality is required. The big question is "ITB" or "OTB"? (software or hardware)

I created the hardware overview because I had wanted something like this when my studio was under construction - and I spent endless time trying to figure out all the things that were and weren't needed. Many forums were more focused on hardware obsessions, but didn't help me find my way around.

Besides MAX, I use very little software, but for audio editing and mastering I have a few programs, of course, and that includes a "repair kit" to remove humming, noise, etc.

The biggest obstacle for me were the doubts whether I could perform this work satisfactorily. Some good tools and sufficient patience are very conducive to good success here.

Every room has its individual "room modes" due to its shape, length, width and height. The calculation of these modes is the first step in any acoustic improvement process.
