img This programming package was and is largely responsible for my immersion in electronic music. Before there was this software, it was almost impossible to make electro-acoustic music without advance into highly subsidized (high school and radio) areas! Everything was hardware and all was priceless!

Max is a graphical environment for MIDI-programming, like interfaces or automation GUIs. MSP is included in Max and builds the audio part of this environment. Jitter is the name of the video part of this environment- but Jitter can be a big help in building the GUI of a patch. Max/MSP/Jitter is my base for everything that is performed live.

img The cross-platform "Max 4 Live" makes ABLETON Live a fantastic base for all projects with timelines. The surface of Live is so well designed and by the broad range of users on the amount of time! Also, there are a plethora of controllers that are tailored to Live.

Logic PRO X

img For editing and mastering there are countless programs that all have their strengths: sequencers, audio editors or pure editing programs. I use Logic Pro, even if I do not need most of the features.

img An alternative to Logic - much cheaper (€ 45) and also much "lighter" than Logic. In between I had completely switched to Reaper, because it offers everything what is important for me.

Ozone 6

img Since version 4 the company Izotope is a term for their good mastering software suite. With version 6 finally also an attractive interface succeeded. The Advanced version allows to load the components as individual plug-ins and has been extended with a Dynamic EQ.

img Among PlugIns the UAD PlugIns occupy a special place because of the digital emulations of large analog precursors. Among them are such famous devices like Fairchild Compressor, 1176 LN, LA-2A and -3A, VCA VU, Helios Type 69 EQ, Pultec EQ, Neve 1073, 1081 EQ and the like.

With these PlugIns color comes into play and it can do unexpectedly deep interventions when editing the recordings. Also, the EMT-250 Reverb is one of my favorites - the original algorithms have been transferred to the software...

Universal Audio offers some fantastic PlugIns also for Mastering, such as the Precision Mastering Bundle, the Mastering Version of the Manley Massive Passive or SSL Buss Compressor. Of course, the PlugIns are not a 100% copy of the hardware, but the quality is stunningly good and leaves no questions unanswered.

Some of the newer PlugIns (Manley, Studer, Fatso, SSL Compressor) are so good that they let some older PlugIns seem obsolete!

img To calibrate your own studio speakers unassisted, Sonar Works' software "Reference 3" could be the safest, easiest and cheapest solution to achieve a noticeable improvement.

With less than € 300.- the bundle software/measurement microphone is far below the prices of its competitors. The weak quality of the Mic is compensated somewhat by an individual correction curve, which can be downloaded. Despite this moderate microphone the effect of the software is amazing. On the picture can be seen how both channels are processed separately with EQ and phase (the boxes were spaced unbalanced in the room, one was closer to a wall, therefor the output levels are different). The sound is much more accessible, localizable and the plug-in is certainly a help, especially in acoustically imperfect room conditions.
